Music Supervisor Spotlight: M.I.A.
What’s that? M.I.A. created an original soundtrack for Kenzo’s Fall 2013 Fashion week? Is there anything more she can possibly do? M.I.A., or Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, not only is a successful musician but she is also full of even more surprises. Her background alone is always a compelling story. Being born to activist Arul Pragasm, her life was nothing close to normal on account of being displaced by the Sri Lankan Civil War and growing up in both India and London. Therefore, she has always had a knack for being involved on all fronts outside of her music, from humanitarianism to philanthropy. She went to college for visual arts and film and has always been keen on fashion and style. Interestingly enough, she is the only artist to be nominated for an Academy Award, Grammy Award, Brit Award, Mercury Prize and Alternative Turner Prize. Sooo I think it is only a matter of time she filled the role of music supervisor to add on to her list. Her soundtrack is an eight and a half minute long mixtape called Matangi , containing bits of new songs and samples that will cause some eagerness for her work since Bad Girls.
